Looking For the Perfect Red Lipstick (AVON, Sephora or MAC?)

Um estudo recente comprovou que o uso de batom vermelho realça a feminilidade da mulher e aumenta o seu poder de sedução. Bom, a mim parece-me que esse estudo veio então confirmar o que nós todas já sabíamos. Quando usamos batom vermelho sentimo-nos automaticamente mais bonitas e confiantes. Além disso, o batom vermelho funciona também como um acessório, dando cor a qualquer look e tornando-o imediatamente mais interessante. Por coincidência, estamos na época da cor vermelha. Vemo-la na roupa e nas decorações de Natal, porque não também nos nossos lábios? Eu pessoalmente lembro-me de todos os Natais usar pelo menos um dia batom vermelho. Para mim é uma forma de entrar no espírito e dar aquele toque mais natalício à minha maquilhagem. Hoje em dia, uso batom vermelho todos os dias para o trabalho e como tal tenho experimentado algumas marcas diferentes e ficado com alguns favoritos. Hoje venho falar-vos de três batons que usei ultimamente. Se quiserem ficar a saber mais sobre eles continuem a ler :)

A recent study proved that the use of red lipstick enhances women femininity and increases their power of seduction. Well, to me it seems that that study arrived right on time to confirm what we all already knew. When we use red lipstick we feel automatically more beautiful and confident. Besides, red lipstick also works as an accessory, providing color to any look and making it immediately more interesting. By coincidence, this is also the season when we see this color everywhere. We see it on clothes and Christmas decor, why not on our lips too? I personally remember that every Christmas I used red lipstick at least in one of the days. To me it's a way of getting into the spirit and providing that Christmas touch to my makeup. Nowadays, I use red lipstick every day for work and as such I've been trying a few different brands and have been gathering a few favourites. Today I want to tell you about three lipsticks I used lately. If you want to know more about them then keep reading :)

Olhando para eles os três, o primeiro é o que chama mais a atenção pela sua embalagem. O batom  Totally Kissable na cor Red Embrace da AVON foi o primeiro que eu experimentei entre estes três e gostei bastante. Ele oferece uma pigmentação fantástica e é muito macio e cremoso. Não sendo mate, não dura horas e horas nos lábios, mas ainda assim tem uma durabilidade bastante boa (caso não se coma ou beba nada de especial claro!) e é super fácil de aplicar. Embora seja lindíssimo, não funcionou para o que eu precisava (13 horas de trabalho seguidas com maquilhagem!), logo decidi que talvez um mate fosse o mais indicado para o meu caso e tive de ir à procura de outras opções.

By looking at them, the first is the one that grabs our attention because of its packaging. The AVON Totally Kissable in Red Embrace was the first one I tried from these three and I really liked it. It offers an amazing pigmentation and is very soft and creamy. Not being matte, it doesn't last hours and hours on the lips, but still its durability is pretty good (if you don't eat or drink nothing special of course!) and is super easy to apply. Although it's beautiful, it didn't work for what I needed (hello 13 hours of duty with makeup on!), so I decided that maybe a matte would be better for my case and I went looking for more options.

De seguida temos então o 6053H da gama da Sephora. Quando comprei este batom a senhora que me estava a atender na loja estava a usá-lo e imediatamente recomendou-o porque tinha as características de que eu estava à procura. Ser um verdadeiro vermelho, mate e com muito boa durabilidade.  Pareceu-me bem. Arrisquei, trouxe-o para casa e ao fim de um dia a trabalhar com ele percebi que realmente ser mate fazia toda a diferença (com o da AVON tinha de estar hora a hora a retocar, principalmente depois de comer), e até depois de comer a necessidade de retocar não era tanta. O único problema que encontrei nele foi o facto de ele secar um pouco os lábios e ao fim de retocar duas ou três vezes começa a esfarelar um pouco e isso nota-se bastante ao fim de um dia longo.

Next we have the 6053H from Sephora. When I bought this lipstick the lady that was helping me in the store was using it and immediately recommended it to me because it had all the characteristics I was looking for. To be a true red, mate and with a very good durability. It seemed good to me. I took a risk, brought it home and in the end of one day of work wearing it I realized that being matte was making all the difference (with the AVON lipstick I had to retouch every hour, specially after eating), and even after eating the need to retouch it was not a lot. The only problem I found with this one was the fact that it dried my lips a little bit and after retouching it two or three times it started to crumble and after a long day that is very noticeable.

Depois de duas tentativas, e quando o da Sephora terminou, decidi experimentar outra marca com esperança de encontrar o batom vermelho perfeito. Dirigi-me então à MAC e trouxe para casa o batom clássico e mate da marca, o Russian Red. E se os outros dois eram bons, então agora eu estava no céu! 13 horas de trabalho com comida e MUITA bebida pela meio e o Russian Red não borra, não esfarela e não seca os lábios. E é aquele vermelho perfeito! É super fácil de aplicar, sendo cremoso ao início e ficando completamente mate após uns segundos. Posso comer e beber à vontade sem precisar de retocar, embora o faça por escolha, e sei que durante um dia inteiro não me vai deixar  ficar mal.

After two attempts, and when the Sephora one was over, I decided to try a different brand hoping to find the perfect red lipstick. I went to MAC and I brought home the classic mate lipstick from the brand, the Russian Red. And if the others were nice, now I was in lipstick heaven! 13 hours of duty with food, LOTS of drinks in between and the Russian Red was not smudging, crumbling or drying my lips. And it's that perfect red! It's super easy to apply, being creamy at first and getting totally mate after a few seconds. I can eat and drink as I wish without the need to retouch it, although I do it by choice, and I know that after a long day it will still look good.

E pelos vistos já é popular, porque não sou a única a usá-lo :)

And apparently it's getting popular, because I'm not the only one using it :)

Apesar de serem todos muito bons, na minha opinião servem para ocasiões diferentes. Por exemplo, o batom da AVON continuo a usá-lo para ocasiões em que estou menos horas com ele e que não exista problema caso ele saia. Já o Russian Red junta todas as características que eu procurava e é perfeito para trabalhar, logo já não sai da minha bolsa de maquilhagem e assim que terminar tenho a certeza de que vou comprar um igual.

Although they are all very nice, in my opinion they are good for different occasions. For example, the one by AVON I keep using for occasions that I have to use it for less hours and if there's no problem in case it starts disappearing. Now the Russian Red gathers all the characteristics I was looking for and is perfect for work, so now it doesn't leave my makeup bag anymore and as soon as I run out of it I'm sure I'll get a new one.

Algo que ajuda muito na durabilidade do batom, e que a nossa Joana está sempre a frisar, é usar lápis de lábios por baixo. O que eu uso sempre é o 706 Smart Lip Pencil da Kiko e ajuda imenso!
Something that really helps with any lipstick, and our dear Joana is always telling us, is to use a lip pencil underneath. The one I always use is the 706 Smart Lip Pencil by Kiko and it really does help!

Estamos no início de mais uma semana e hoje trago-vos uma review! É verdade, já não tínhamos uma há algum tempo, mas hoje é dia de uma!

We are just starting another week and today I bring you a review! It’s true, we haven't had many of those lately, but today is the day!

Hoje trago-vos a review da paleta da Carli Bybel! Sim é verdade, ainda sorrio cada vez que digo isto. Quem adora maquilhagem sabe quem é a Carli Bybel, uma youtuber muito conhecida que fez uma parceria com a marca BH Cosmetics e lançou esta paleta fantástica. Sim acreditem, esta paleta é vida!

Today I bring you the review of the Carli Bybel palette! Yes, it's true, I still smile every time I say that. Passionates about makeup know who Carli Bybel is, she's a very well known youtuber who has partnered with the brand BH Cosmetics and launched this fantastic palette. Yes trust me, this palette is life!

Começamos pelo exterior da paleta, que é lindo! A embalagem é de cartão, mas resistente, e tem um fecho magnético. É em tons de branco, com um efeito acolchoado e com ornamentos em prateado. Uma imagem muito delicada e feminina. Nota-se bem que todos os pormenores foram pensados. Na parte de trás da paleta, tem uma pequena apresentação da Carli Bybel e da própria paleta, tal como encontramos nos livros. Adorei este carinho da parte dela.

Let's start with the outside of the palette, which is beautiful! The packaging is in cardboard, but really hard, and has a magnetic lock. It has shades of white, with a quilted effect and silver ornaments. A very delicate and feminine look. We can see that she thought about every detail. In the back of the palette there is a small presentation from Carli Bybel and about the palette itself, as we find in books. I loved that detail.

Mas vamos lá passar ao que interessa, a paleta em si! A paleta é constituída por 12 sombras de olhos e 4 iluminadores. Todos os produtos são em pó e na típica forma compacta. As sombras são de acabamento mate, acetinado e shimmer. Todos os produtos são de excelente qualidade, com uma pigmentação fantástica e uma óptima durabilidade. Temos ainda um espelho grande, o que dá imenso jeito.

But let's move on to what really matters, the palette itself! The palette consists on 12 eyeshadows and 4 illuminators. All products are in powder and in the typical compact format. The shadows are matte, satin and shimmer. All products have an excellent quality, with fantastic pigmentation and great durability. We also have a large mirror, which is very useful.

Por baixo do espelho temos ainda uma frase, muito inspiradora. E acho fantástico ter sido colocada naquele, pois assim será sempre vista. São estes pequenos pormenores que fazem toda a diferença.

Under the mirror we have a very inspiring sentence. And I think it's great that it was placed on that specific place, because that way it will always be seen. These are the small details that make all the difference.

Mas vocês já sabem que eu nunca vos deixo apenas com uma descrição, por isso fiz swatches de todos os produtos desta paleta. Como as sombras não têm nomes, decidi fazer por filas.

But you already know that I never leave you with just a description, so I did swatches of all the products from the palette. Since the shadows don't have any names, I decided to do it by lines.

Na primeira fila temos 6 sombras de olhos, tons mais claros mas todos lindos. Temos uma sombra mate, uma shimmer e três acetinadas. Mostro-vos os swatches das mesmas.

In the first line we have 6 eyeshadows, these are lighter shades but all beautiful. We have one matte, one shimmer and three satin shades. I'll show you the swatches.

E aqui estão os swatches das sombras da primeira fila. A primeira sombra vê-se menos bem, porque a cor dela é muito clara, assim como o tom da minha pele. Como podem ver a pigmentação é mesmo muito boa.

And here are the swatches from the first line of eyeshadows. The first shadow is less visible, because its color is very clear, as is the tone of my skin. As you can see the pigmentation is really good.

A segunda fila de sombras tem tons mais escuros e quentes, mas todos lindos. Temos quatro sombras shimmer e uma acetinada. Mostro-vos os swatches abaixo.

The second line of eyeshadows has darker and warmer tones, but all beautiful. We have four shimmer shades and one with a satin finish. I'll show you the swatches below.

Sombras fantásticas em cores que estão muito em voga, como é o caso do rose gold, do dourado ou até mesmo do cobre. Mais uma vez a pigmentação é fantástica.

Fantastic eyeshadows in colors that are very fashionable right now, such as rose gold, gold or even copper. Once again the pigmentation is fantastic.

Mas esta paleta é tudo o que precisamos e por isso não tem só sombras de olhos, tem também iluminadores de rosto.

But this palette is all we need and so it doesn't have eyeshadows only, it also has face highlighters.

Temos 4 iluminadores lindos! 2 em tons frios e 2 em tons mais quentes. Todos são fantásticos e eu tenho usado e abusado do iluminador.

We have 4 beautiful illuminators! 2 in cold tones and 2 in warmer tones. They are all fantastic and I have been using illuminator like crazy.

Como podem ver pelos swatches, os iluminadores são super pigmentados e com uma textura muito cremosa. Já utilizei todos, alguns até como sombras de olhos (temos de ser criativos).

As you can see from the swatches, the illuminators are super pigmented and have a very creamy texture. I've used all of them, some even as eyeshadows (we have to be creative).

E esta é a minha paleta do momento, a paleta da Carli Bybel da BH Cosmetics! Confesso que adoro mesmo esta paleta e quando estou indecisa numa maquilhagem recorro sempre a ela. Tem tons muito versáteis e conseguimos fazer vários looks só com uma paleta, além de ainda ter os fantásticos iluminadores.

And this is my palette of the moment, the Carli Bybel palette by BH Cosmetics! I confess that I really love this palette and when I'm hesitant on what to choose for a makeup look, I always go for it. It has very versatile shades and we are able to make several looks with just one palette, and besides it also has those fantastic illuminators.

TOP 25: Christmas Advent Calendars 2016

Talvez seja cedo para se falar em presentes de Natal, mas eu já comecei a comprar alguns e cá por casa já se entrou no espírito natalício, com direito a árvore de natal e tudo. Pensando bem, já estamos quase a terminar o mês de Novembro, por isso, porque não?
Maybe it's too early to talk about Christmas presents, but I have already started to buy some of them and around here we're in full Christmas spirit, with Christmas tree and all. And if you think twice, we're almost in the end of November, so why not?

Todos os anos nesta altura do ano, algumas marcas de beleza juntam os seus melhores produtos e criam os calendários de advento. Além de serem presentes perfeitos por si só, os calendários de advento podem também servir para compor várias prendas, caso separem os produtos e ofereçam um  produto a cada amiga, por exemplo. Este ano parece que todas as marcas decidiram criar um e por isso há bastante escolha. Como em Portugal não temos acesso a todas as marcas que vos vou mostrar, tentei encontrá-los online e converter os preços para terem noção de quanto custariam para nós em euros. Não foi fácil encontrar todos online e infelizmente enquanto fazia a pesquisa para este post muitos deles já estavam esgotados, daí não os mencionar. Porém, ainda existem muitos disponíveis e todos são presentes perfeitos para este Natal.
Every year, beauty brands put together all of their best products and create advent calendars. No doubt they're perfect Christmas presents and also they are great stocking fillers, in case you separate the products and give one to each friend, for example. This year it seems every single brand decided to create one and so we have lots of choices. Unfortunately while I was researching for this post some of them were already sold out, so that's why I'm not mentioning them. However, there are a lot still available and they're all perfect Christmas presents for this year.

Este é possivelmente um dos calendários mais bonitos deste ano. A embalagem é maravilhosa, as ilustrações estão perfeitas e super detalhadas e ainda podemos contar com 24 dos best-sellers da marca, especialmente para as amantes de cuidados de corpo, em tamanhos de viagem bastante razoáveis. Momentaneamente esgotado no site da marca aqui, mas com esperança que ainda volte ou que esteja disponível nas lojas físicas.
This is probably one of the most beautiful calendars from this year. The package is amazing, the illustrations are perfect and super detailed and we can count on 24 best-sellers from the brand, specifically chosen for body care lovers, in pretty good travel sizes. Unfortunately it's sold out for the moment, but I'm hoping it will return or that I can find it in one of their stores. Momentarily out of stock on their website here, but hoping it still comes back or that it's available in physical stores.

A marca Australiana criou o seu calendário de advento pela primeira vez e fê-lo em tons de rose gold, que por si só já é um ponto positivo. Juntou 12 produtos de maquilhagem, pincéis, uma pinça, uma vela e até um espelho. Tem tudo para ser um sucesso. E o melhor é que está à venda na Feel Unique aqui.

We finish with this year's most expensive calendar. But of course Estée Lauder couldn't be out of the game and created its calendar with 24 beauty, makeup and fragrance surprises.
