Naked 2: authentic vs. replica by Joana Pedro

Hoje será um post diferente do habitual. Recentemente soube da existência de réplicas de produtos de maquilhagem, isto é, imitação completa de alguns produtos de marca ou os originais produtos de marca, mas com algum defeito. Estas réplicas são vendidas a um preço mais baixo do que os produtos originais. 

Today the post will be different than the usual. Recently I found out about the existence of makeup product replicas, which means, a complete imitation of some branded products or genuine branded products, but with some flaws. These replicas are sold at a lower price than the original products.

Eu e a Ana decidimos juntar-nos e fazer a comparação entre um produto original e uma réplica, neste caso, da paleta Naked 2 da Urban Decay.  

Ana and I decided to join and make a comparison between an original and a replica product, in this case, the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.  

A Ana possui a paleta original e eu recentemente decidi adquirir a réplica, assim comparámos tudo ao pormenor e agora desvendamos o mistério. 

Ana has the original palette and I recently decided to get a replica, so we compared all the details and now we unravel the mystery. 

Como podem ver pela imagem de cima, ambas as paletas por fora são completamente iguais. Tanto em questão de material, como de design. A única diferença é a pequena mudança de tom nas letras da embalagem, visto que a Naked original tem as letras acinzentadas e a réplica tem as letras completamente pretas. 

As you can see by the image above, on the outside both palettes are completely equal. The material in question and the design. The only difference is the small change of tone in the lyrics of the package, since the original Naked has gray letters and the replica has completely black letters.

Como podem ver ambas as paletas são completamente iguais! Possuem as mesmas sombras, com os mesmos nomes e as mesmas tonalidades. 

As you can see both palettes are completely alike! They have the same shadows, with the same names and the same shades.

Now I show you in more detail each palette.

Ambas vêm com um pincel de dupla face, com um lado para aplicar a sombra e outro para esfumar. Mostro agora os dois mais pormenorizadamente:

They both come with a double-sided brush with one side to apply the shadow and the other for blending. Now I show both in more detail: 

Como podem ver os pinceis são exactamente iguais tirando uma pequena particularidade. Estão trocados, ou seja, na réplica onde está o pincel de aplicação, na paleta original encontra-se o pincel de esfumar. Testei ambos os pinceis e garanto-vos que, em questão de funcionalidade e qualidade, são exactamente a mesma coisa. 

As you can see the brushes are exactly alike except a small feature. They are reversed, I mean, in the replica where the application brush is, in the original palette is the brush to blend. I tested both brushes and I assure you that, in a matter of functionality and quality, they are exactly the same thing.

  

Mas claro que não podíamos ficar apenas por esta avaliação a “olho nu”, tivemos também que analisar melhor e testar ambas as paletas. Decidimos então fazer swatches das mesmas sombras das duas paletas em simultâneo, alternando a utilização do primer de olhos. Ora vejam: 

But of course we couldn’t just stand with this "naked eye" evaluation, we also had to better analyze and test both palettes. So we decided to do swatches with the same color shadows from the two palettes simultaneously, alternating the use of eye primer. Now let's see:

Nestas seis primeiras sombras (3 de cada paleta) utilizámos um primer de olhos. Como podem ver, são bastante iguais, nesta imagem até pode parecer que existe alguma diferença de pigmentação, mas não, é devido à luz. A única diferença é na coloração da sombra HalfBaked (sombra do meio), em que na réplica a sombra é de um tom mais alaranjado do que a sombra da paleta original. Mas de resto, são exactamente iguais. 

In these first six shadows (3 of each palette) we used an eye primer. As you can see, they are quite equal, in the image it may seem that there is some difference in pigmentation, but that's due to the light. The only difference is the color from the Halfbaked shadow (the shadow in the middle), where the replica shadow has more of an orange tone than the shadow from the original palette. But besides that, they are exactly alike. 
 

Na segunda ronda decidimos não utilizar qualquer tipo de primer. E como podem ver as semelhanças são admiráveis. Todas as sombras são do mesmo tom, excepto a Snakebite (última sombra), em que a sombra da réplica é um pouco mais pigmentada do que a original, evidenciando assim o seu efeito shimmer. A Tease (sombra do meio) apresenta uma coloração um pouco diferente, sendo a da paleta original mais escura. 

In the second round we decided not to use any kind of primer. And as you can see the similarities are striking. All the shadows have the same shade, except Snakebite (the last shadow), in which the shadow of the replica is a little more pigmented than the original, thus showing its shimmer effect. Tease (the shadow in the middle) presents a slightly different color, being darker the one from the original palette.

Numa terceira ronda voltámos a utilizar um primer de olhos. E as sombras continuam idênticas! A primeira sombra (Suspect) pode parecer um pouco diferente, mas ambas são exactamente iguais, talvez devido à luz ou à inclinação da minha mão a imagem ficou com este efeito um pouco errado. A sombra do meio (Pistol) é um pouco mais pigmentada na paleta da réplica. Com a última sombra (Verve) acontece o contrário, a sombra da paleta original tem um pouco mais de pigmentação. 

In the third round we used an eye primer again. And the shadows remain identical! The first shadow (Suspect) may look a little different, but they are both exactly the same, perhaps due to the inclination of my hand or due to the light the image stood with this wrong effect. The shadow in the middle (Pistol) is a bit more pigmented in the replica. With the last shadow (Verve) the opposite happens, the shadow of the original palette has a bit more pigment.
 

Mas foi na última ronda que vimos as maiores diferenças. Na primeira sombra (YDK) a coloração é completamente diferente, pois na paleta original a sombra é castanha com efeito shimmer e na réplica a sombra já é num tom mais alaranjado, mas também com o mesmo efeito shimmer. Na sombra do meio (Busted) a coloração da réplica é mais forte do que a original e o mesmo acontece com a última sombra (Blackout).  

But it was in the last round where we saw the biggest differences. In the first shadow (YDK) the coloring is completely different, because the original palette eyeshadow is brown with shimmer effect and in the replica the shadow has now a more orange tone, but also with the same shimmer effect. In the shadow of the middle (Busted) the coloring from the replica is stronger than the original one and it happens the same with the last shadow (Blackout).

Mas claro que não podiamos ficar apenas por uns simples swatches. Decidi também testar ambas as paletas em pleno funcionamento. Isto é, decidi fazer uma maquilhagem carregada e dramática, num olho utilizei a paleta Naked 2 autêntica e no outro olho utilizei a réplica.  

But of course we couldn’t have just simple swatches. I then decided to test both palettes in full operation. That means that I decided to do a strong and dramatic makeup look, in one eye I used the authentic Naked 2 palette and in the other eye I used the replica.

Como podem ver nas imagens, quando postas à prova ambas as paletas resultam igualmente bem. Quanto ao nível de qualidade das sombras arrisco-me a dizer que estão em pé de igualdade. Na réplica a durabilidade das sombras é extraordinária, permanecem intactas por imenso tempo, mesmo sem primer. Em relação a este teste de maquilhagem, como podem comprovar ambos os olhos estão iguais, apesar de um poder parecer mais escuro que o outro, mas isso deve-se ao facto de ter esbatido melhor um que outro (às vezes acontece, erros de cálculo, se é que me entendem). 

As you can see in the pictures, when putting them to the real test, both palettes result equally well. Regarding the level of quality of the shadows I venture to say that they are at the same level. In the replica the durability of the shadows is extraordinary, they remain intact for a long time, even without primer. Regarding this makeup test, as you can see, both eyes look the same, although one may appear darker than the other, but that is due to the fact that I blended one better that the other (sometimes it happens, miscalculation if you know what I mean).

Para esta maquilhagem optei por uns smoky eyes bem escuros e iluminados. Queria uma maquilhagem mais dramática e em que se pudesse ver bem a qualidade de ambas as paletas. 

For this makeup I chose to do smoky eyes, dark and highlighted. I wanted a more dramatic makeup in which we could see the quality of both palettes.

Apliquei um primer de olhos. Utilizei a sombra Foxy em toda a pálpebra móvel, marquei o côncavo com a sombra Pistol e no canto interno esfumando para cima e junto à raiz das pestanas (como uma espécie de eyeliner) apliquei a sombra preta, a Blackout. Na parte debaixo do olho dei continuidade ao esfumado e no canto externo até meio dos olhos voltei a utilizar a sombra preta e do meio do olho até ao canto interno utilizei a sombra Verve, um cinza mais cintilante. Para iluminar abaixo da sobrancelha e no canto interno do olho utilizei a sombra Bootycall. E claro que utilizei camadas e camadas de rímel, mas isso fica ao vosso gosto. 

I applied an eye primer. I used the shadow Foxy on the mobile eyelid, marked the concave with the shadow Pistol and in the inner corner blending upwards and near the roots of the eyelashes (like an eyeliner) I applied the black shadow, Blackout. On the bottom of the eye I continued the smoky using the black shadow on the outer corner until the middle of the eye and in the half until the inner corner I used the Verve shadow, a more shimmering gray. To illuminate below the brow and in the inner corner of the eye I used the Bootycall shadow. Of course I used layers and layers of mascara, but that's up to you.

Agora como que em jeito de conclusão posso dizer que ambas as paletas são fantásticas, têm boa qualidade, boa pigmentação e têm todas as cores que precisam para fazerem vários looks. Quanto às diferenças, algumas sombras da réplica (3 sombras) têm uma coloração mais clara e uma tonalidade diferente da paleta original. Em contrapartida, a réplica tem algumas sombras (os tons mais fortes) com mais pigmentação do que a paleta original. Ambas são óptimas! 
Now as a conclusion I can say that both palettes are fantastic, they have great quality, good pigmentation and they have all the colors that you need to do several looks. About the differences, some shadows from the replica (3 shadows) have a lighter color and a different shade from the original palette. However, the replica has some shadows (the strongest tones) with more pigment than the original palette. Both palettes are great!
