E como prometido hoje retomamos a nossa jornada de maquilhagem, mas com um tema diferente. Acabámos a preparação do rosto e passamos para os olhos. O tema de hoje são as sombras.

Hello again lovelies!

And as promised today we return to our makeup journey, but with a different theme. We finished the preparation of the face and we now move on to the eyes. The theme of today is the eye shadows.

Apesar de praticamente todas sabermos o que é e para que serve uma sombra, eu vou explicar só um pouco. A sombra é um produto cosmético que aplicamos nos olhos para que estes ganhem mais “vida”. Este produto acrescenta profundidade e dimensão, complementa a cor dos olhos ou simplesmente chama a atenção para a região dos olhos. É produzida em imensas cores, com vários acabamentos (mate ou shimmer) e em diversas texturas.

Although we all know what it is and what it’s the purpose of an eye shadow, I'll explain just a little bit. The eye shadow is a cosmetic product that we apply in the eyes in order to give them more "life". This product adds depth and dimension, complements the color of the eyes or simply draws attention to the eye region. It’s produced in several colors, with different finishes (matte or shimmer) and several textures.

Como todos já sabem, eu amo maquilhagem! De todo o tipo, mas para mim a parte mais divertida é mesmo os olhos, pois podemos “brincar” com as cores e inventar novas combinações. Porque a maquilhagem também é isso, diversão, e podemos conjugar imensas cores da maneira que quisermos.

As you all know, I love makeup! Of all kinds, but for me the most fun part is really the eyes, because we can "play" with the colors and invent new combinations. Because makeup is also that, fun, and we can combine several colors the way we want.

Não existe nenhuma maneira exacta de aplicar as sombras, cada um aplica da maneira que mais lhe agrada e que quiser. Porém, existem algumas dicas que vos podem ser muito úteis, vou dar-vos a que acho ser a mais importante de todas.

There is no exact way to apply eye shadows, each one applies the way that suits them and the way they want. However, there are some tips that can be very useful, I’ll give you what I think is the most important of all.

a- Nestas zonas devemos sempre aplicar um tom iluminador, pois vai fazer com que o olhar abra. Aplicamos no canto interno do olho, podendo prolongar, ou não, um pouco para baixo, e no osso da sobrancelha. Esta sombra pode ser de qualquer tom claro ou até mesmo cintilante. 

a- In these areas we must always apply an illuminating tone because it will make the eyes wider. We apply it in the inner corner of the eye, which we may prolong, or not, a bit down, and in the brow bone. This shadow can be any light or even sparkling shadow.

b- Aqui devemos aplicar uma sombra de tom médio. Para um look diurno esta deve ser a sombra com o tom mais neutro. Aplicamos no côncavo, começando sempre pelo canto externo do olho. 

b- Here we apply a medium tone. For a daytime look this should be the shadow with the more neutral tone. We apply it in the hollow, always starting in the outer corner of the eye.

c- Aqui devemos aplicar o tom que queremos destacar, geralmente é o tom mais escuro.  Este promove o toque final da cor e vai definir a restante maquilhagem dos olhos. Ao aplicar devemos ter especial atenção à linha junto às pestanas, pois também devemos aplicar sombra nessa área. Aplicamos em toda a pálpebra móvel até à metade externa do côncavo. 

c- Here we apply the tone we want to highlight, which is usually the darker one. This promotes the finishing touch of color and will define the rest of the eye makeup. While applying we should pay special attention to the line along the lashes, we must also apply shadow in that area. We apply it across the mobile eyelid until the outer half of the concave.

Existem imensas técnicas de aplicação de sombras, mas a minha preferida (já devem ter reparado) são os smoky eyes. Adoro aquele efeito de olhos esfumados e podemos combinar imensas cores, se bem que os tons habituais são neutros, logo fica sempre bem com qualquer coisa.

There are lots of techniques to apply eye shadows, but my favorite (you may have noticed) is the smoky eye. I love that smoky effect and we can combine several colors, although the usual tones are neutral, which always look good with anything.

Vou agora explicar-vos muito sucintamente a minha técnica preferida, os smoky eyes:

Now I’ll explain to you very briefly my favorite technique, the smoky eyes:

 1- Illuminator;

2- Dark eye shadow;

3- Neutral/Light eye shadow;

4- Eyeliner.

Como podem ver é bastante fácil utilizar esta técnica e fica sempre bem.

As you can see, it’s quite easy to use this technique and it always looks good.

Existem ainda diversos tipos de sombra, em relação à sua textura. Vou agora falar-vos um pouco de cada uma. 

There are several types of eye shadows, concerning its texture. Now I’ll tell you a little bit about each one.

Sombra Compacta:

Este é o tipo de sombra mais conhecido. A sua embalagem compacta pode apresentar diversas formas e podem ser vistas individuais ou em paletas. Este tipo de sombras tem uma ótima fixação por causa dos pigmentos que possuem. O toque é macio e sedoso, com a vantagem de não borrarem facilmente.

Compact Eye Shadow:

This is the best known type of shadow. This compact package can present several forms and can be viewed individually or in pallets. This type of shadows has a great setting because of the pigments they have. The touch is soft and silky, with the advantage of not easily blot.

Sombra em pó:

Estas sombras são também conhecidas como “pigmentos”. Podem ser aplicados no seu estado natural (pó) ou com um produto de mistura de pigmentos, mas sempre após a aplicação de um primer de olhos. Geralmente este tipo de produto tem uma boa fixação e um acabamento mais natural. As sombras em pó têm uma textura mais sedosa e leve que as outras.

Powder Eye Shadow: 

These eye shadows are also known as "pigments". They can be applied in their natural state (powder) or as a mixture of pigments, but always after the application of an eye primer. Generally this type of product has a good duration and has a more natural finish. The powder shadows have a silky and light texture, bigger than the others.

Sombras Cremosas:

Este tipo de sombras é também conhecido como sombras em creme, pois a sua textura é cremosa. Podem também ser vistas individualmente ou em paletas. Estas sombras têm uma grande vantagem, são de fácil e rápida aplicação, pois podem ser aplicadas com os próprios dedos. Mas como todos os produtos têm uma desvantagem, estas sombras derretem muito facilmente, daí as peles oleosas terem um pouco de dificuldade na utilização destas sombras, pois a sua durabilidade é reduzida. Mas nada que não se resolva com um bom primer!

Creamy Eye Shadow:

This type of shadows is also known as cream shadows, because their texture is really creamy. They can also be viewed individually or in palettes. These shadows have a great advantage, are quick and easy to apply, they can be applied with the fingers. But like all products they have a downside, they melt very easily, hence the oily skin have a little difficulty in using these shadows, because their durability is low. But nothing that a good eye primer can't solve! 

 

Sombra Liquida:

Este tipo de sombras é bastante bom, pois geralmente são todas à prova d’água. Tal como as sombras anteriores são de fácil aplicação e também podem ser aplicadas com os dedos, mas geralmente trazem um prático aplicador. O único problema destas sombras é que têm tendência a acumularem-se nas “pregas” dos olhos, principalmente nas peles oleosas, daí ser tão importante a aplicação de um primer de olhos.

Liquid Eye Shadow:

This type of shadows is quite nice, because usually they are all waterproof. Like the shadows above, they're easy to apply and they can also be applied with the fingers, but usually they bring a handy applicator. The only problem is that these shadows have the tendency to accumulate in the "folds" of the eyes, especially in oily skin, hence it’s so important to apply an eye primer.

Sombra em Lápis:

Este tipo de sombras é também conhecido como “Jumbo Pencil”. Têm uma textura cremosa, são de fácil aplicação e deslizam facilmente na pele. É uma óptima opção para um traço ou contorno mais preciso. A única desvantagem é a sua durabilidade, sendo necessários vários retoques periódicos.

Pencil Eye Shadow: 

This type of shadows is also known as "Jumbo Pencil". They have a creamy texture, are easy to apply and glide easily on the skin. They're a great choice for a more precise line or contour. The only downside is its durability, which require multiple touches throughout the day.

Vou agora falar-vos de alguns dos meus produtos favoritos a nível de sombras.

Now I’ll tell you about some of my favorite products concerning eye shadows.

O primeiro produto está no topo da minha lista de favoritos, são as paletas de sombras da Sleek. Estas paletas contêm 12 sombras, todas compactas e de diferentes cores. Já falei delas no blog aqui. São de óptima pigmentação e de grande durabilidade. Adoro-as!

The first product is in the top of my list of favorites, the eye shadow palettes by Sleek. These palettes contain 12 shadows, all compact and in different colors. I had already spoken of them in a post here. They have great pigmentation and durability. I love them!

O próximo produto é a gama Color Tatto da Maybelline. Estas são umas sombras cremosas que se vendem individualmente, na embalagem que podem ver na imagem. Esta coleção, lançada pela Maybelline, tem todas as sombras com um acabamento shimmer, mas que ficam lindas depois de aplicadas. Têm uma óptima textura, são de fácil aplicação e de grande durabilidade. Podem encontrar as Color Tatto em qualquer parafarmácia ou hipermercado.

The next product is the range of Color Tattoo by Maybelline. These are creamy eye shadows that are sold individually, in packages that you can see in the picture. This collection, launched by Maybelline, has all the shadows with a shimmer finish, but they look great after the application. They have a great texture, are easy to use and have great durability. You can find the Color Tattoo in any supermarket or parapharmacy.
