Makeup journey: Illuminator by Joana Pedro

E estamos a chegar ao fim de mais uma semana. Chegamos também ao fim da preparação do rosto desta nossa jornada de maquilhagem. E o último capítulo e o tema de hoje é o Iluminador.

And we are approaching the end of another week. We arrive too to the end of the chapter about skin preparation in our makeup journey. And the last chapter and today’s topic is the Illuminator.

Dos vários artifícios que a maquilhagem oferece, um dos meus preferidos é o efeito de brilho numa pele saudável, algo que conseguimos com a aplicação de um iluminador. Quando usado correctamente dá um ar de pele iluminada, bonita e saudável. Mas não confundam brilho iluminado com brilho oleoso! São duas coisas bem diferentes. Mesmo que, tal como eu, tenham pele oleosa, é possível usar um iluminador.

One of the various benefits that makeup offers is the glow effect in a healthy skin, something achieved with the application of an illuminator. When used correctly it gives an air of illuminated, beautiful and healthy skin. But don’t confuse illuminated brightness with oily shine! They are two very different things. Even if, like me, you have oily skin, you can use illuminator.

 

     O iluminador é considerado um toque de luxo na maquilhagem. Este serve para iluminar, dando vida ao nosso rosto, um ar fresco e saudável e para dar destaque a pontos que pretendemos sobressair. Quando o iluminador é bem aplicado, ele pode favorecer e até transformar o rosto de qualquer mulher numa verdadeira diva de Hollywood.

   The illuminator is considered a touch of luxury in makeup. It serves to illuminate, giving life to our face, a fresh and healthy air and to highlight the points which we intend to show off. When the illuminator is well implemented, it can encourage and even transform the face of any woman in a true Hollywood diva.

Como já devem ter percebido, não podemos aplicar um iluminador em todo o rosto, se não pareceríamos uns “diamantes ambulantes”, com um rosto disparatadamente iluminado. Por isso existem algumas regras na aplicação deste produto.

As you may have noticed, we can’t apply an illuminator in the entire face, we would be looking a "walking diamond", with a face foolishly illuminated. Because of that there are some rules concening the application of this product.

 

Passo agora a explicar-vos como aplicar um iluminador:

I’ll now explain how to apply an illuminator:

Devemos apenas aplicar o iluminador nos pontos que estão identificados na imagem. Aplicamos com um pincel de iluminação, dos quais já falei em posts anteriores (aqui), e depois espalhamos.

We apply the illuminator on the points that are identified in the picture. We apply it with a lighting brush (which I have already spoken in previous posts, here) and then we spread it. 

(1) Iluminar por debaixo da sobrancelha, permitindo-nos levantar e abrir o olhar naquela área. Em vez de utilizarmos um iluminador, aqui também podemos usar uma sombra mais clara ou até mesmo cintilante.

Highlight under the eyebrow, allowing us to open up the look in that area. Instead of using an illuminator, here we can also use a lighter or even sparkling eye shadow.

(2) Iluminar no canto interno do olho, junto ao canal lacrimal. Um ponto de luz que irá intensificar o nosso olhar e, se não tivermos olheiras, podemos ainda perlongar este iluminado por baixo do olho até meio deste, muito junto à linha das pestanas inferiores. Tal como o ponto anterior, este também pode ser substituído por uma sombra.

Highlight the inner corner of the eye, near to the tear duct. A point of light that will enhance our look, and if we don’t have dark circles, it can be extend under the eye until the middle of it, very close to the lower lash line. Like the previous point, this can also be replaced with an eye shadow.

(3) Iluminar o arco da sobrancelha até ao osso da bochecha, nas têmporas. Nesta zona fazemos uma espécie de “C”, ajudando a sobressair as maçãs do rosto.

Highlight the arch of the eyebrow until the cheek bone, on the temples. In this area we do a sort of "C", helping to stand out the cheekbones.

(4) Iluminar a testa. Aqui o iluminador deve ser aplicado com muito cuidado, com movimentos suaves, o que nos ajudará a criar um ponto de luz.

Highlight the forehead. Here the illuminator should be applied very carefully, with gentle movements, which will help us to create a point of light.

(5) Cana do nariz, devemos iluminar esta zona para dar uma noção de um nariz mais fino e até mais pequeno. Nunca devemos vir até à ponta do nariz, aí o efeito seria o contrário.

Cane of the nose, we should highlight this area to give the idea of a thinner nose and even smaller. We should never come until the tip of the nose, because then the effect would be the opposite.

(6) Entre o nariz e os lábios, irá criar um ponto de luz nesta zona.

Between the nose and the lips, it will create a point of light in this area.

(7) “V” dos lábios, aqui o iluminador irá evidenciar esta zona, dando a noção de um lábio mais definido. Este ponto é opcional, se acharem que não se sentem à vontade podem não o fazer.

"V" of the lips, here the illuminator will highlight this zone, giving the feeling of a more definite lip. This point is optional, if you don’t feel comfortable you can't pass it.

(8) Iluminar o queixo. Se não tiverem um queixo saliente ou um pouco grande, podem usar o iluminador para fazer um ponto no centro deste e espalhar.

Highlight the chin. If you don’t have a proeminent or big chin, you can use the illuminator to make a point at the center of that area and spread it.

Existem ainda diferentes tipos de iluminador, para diferentes tipos de pele.

There are different types of illuminator, to different skin types.

  

Iluminador Cremoso:

Este é um dos iluminadores mais versáteis. O ideal é aplicá-lo com uma esponja, um pincel ou até mesmo com os dedos. Para um acabamento mais perfeito, devem utilizar um pincel pequeno e de textura mais dura. Por vezes temos tendência a esfregar este tipo de produto, para que dure mais tempo, nunca devemos fazer isso, vai fazer com que o brilho fique mais artificial. Este tipo de iluminador é ideal para qualquer tipo de pele.

Creamy Illuminator:

This is one of the most versatile illuminators. The ideal is to apply it with a sponge, a brush or even with your fingers. To a more perfect finish, use a small brush with a though texture. Sometimes we tend to rub this type of product to make it last longer, but we should never do this, it will make the brightness look more artificial. This type of illuminator is ideal to any skin type.

Iluminador em Pó:

A versão do iluminador em pó é a mais indicada para peles mistas e oleosas, pois retira a oleosidade e proporciona um efeito aveludado. Além de dar um especto saudável ao rosto, ainda dá uma sensação de luz cintilante.

Illuminating Powder:

The version of illuminating powder is the most suitable to combination and oily skins, because it removes the oils and provides a velvety effect. Besides giving an healthy look to the face, it still gives a feeling of sparkling light.

Iluminador em Stick:

Este tipo de iluminadores é mais apropriado para peles secas, pois a sua fórmula é baseada em óleos hidratantes, o que não iria ajudar numa pele oleosa. A sua textura suave e cintilante garante longa duração e pode ser utilizado de dia ou de noite, pois o seu brilho é subtil.

Illuminator in Stick:

This type of illuminators is more suitable to dry skin because its formula is based in moisturizing oils, which wouldn’t help in oily skin. Its soft and sparkling texture ensures long lasting and can be used at day or night, because its shine is subtle.

 

Iluminador Liquido:

Os iluminadores líquidos geralmente são como um 2 em 1, pois além de fazerem a sua função de iluminador, dão ainda um toque de bronze ao rosto. Os seus fluídos refletores captam a luz e deixam a pele com uma aparência fresca e cintilante. É ideal para todos os tipos de pele, mas deve ser cuidadosamente utilizado em peles maduras, pois devido à sua pigmentação pode marcar mais as rugas.

Liquid Illuminator:

These illuminators are usually 2 in 1, they have an illuminating function, giving also a tanned look to the face. Their reflector fluids capture the light and leave the skin with a fresh and sparkling look. It’s suitable to all skin types, but should be used carefully in mature skins, because due to their pigmentation the wrinkles can be accentuated.

  

Mas como todos os produtos, temos de ter cuidado para não os utilizarmos excessivamente. Pois iluminador em excesso não dá um ar bonito. Quando é mal aplicado ou com produto em excesso ficamos com um ar artificial e em alguns casos com um aspecto oleoso.

But like all products, we must be careful in order not to use too much of it. Illuminator in excess doesn’t give a beautiful look. When misapplied or with excessive product, it leaves the skin with an artificial air and in some cases with a greasy appearance.

 

Como podem ver todas cometemos erros, mas há que evitá-los. Como tal, o truque do iluminador é ser usado subtilmente sem carregar muito. Assim obteremos uma maquilhagem impecável e ficaremos deslumbrantes!

As you can see, all women make mistakes, but we have to avoid them. As such, the trick of the illuminator is to be used very subtly without pressing to much. So that way we get a flawless makeup and we look stunning!

 

Vou agora falar-vos de alguns dos meus produtos preferidos.

Now I’ll talk about some of my favorite products.

O primeiro produto é um iluminador em pó com uma embalagem compacta, o que se torna fácil para transportar. É o Soft And Gentle da MAC. Esta é uma das marcas mais conceituada no mundo da maquilhagem e através deste produto posso dizer que faz jus ao seu nome. Este iluminador é um dos mais procurados da marca e para mim é um dos melhores. Podem encontrar o Soft And Gentle em qualquer loja MAC.

The first product is a powder illuminator with a compact package, which makes it easy to carry. It's the Soft And Gentle by MAC. This is one of the most prestigious brands in the world of makeup and through this product I can say that it lives up to the name. This illuminator is one of the most sought from the brand and for me is one of the best. You can find the Soft And Gentle in any MAC store.

O produto seguinte é o “meu bebé”. Adoro-o! Apresento-vos o Moon Beam da Benefit. Este é um iluminador líquido com uma coloração dourada, proporcionando uma pele radiante. Esta leve e luminosa loção proporciona um brilho suave e natural. A Benefit dispõe de uma variada gama de iluminadores líquidos e todos eles com diferentes colorações, mas este é sem dúvida um dos meus preferidos. Podem encontrar os produtos da marca Benefit em qualquer loja Sephora.

The next product is kind of "my baby". I love it! I present to you the Moon Beam by Benefit. This is a liquid illuminator with a golden hue, providing a radiant skin. This light and luminous lotion provides a soft and natural glow to the skin. Benefit offers a wide range of liquid illuminators and all of them with different colors, but this is definitely one of my favorites. You can find Benefit products at any Sephora store.
